Hello, my name is Nicole Bruno and I would like to submit my sketch for the free prom dress design contest. I think that this is a great opportunity to truly make my senior prom the best it can be. I'm really excited to enter this contest because in searching for a dress for prom there are always aspects of dresses that I like and dislike, but this is an opportunity to combine all of the aspects that I DO like into one elegant gown. So, here it is!
To start, my dream gown is strapless and has a sweetheart neckline. It is made of pleated chiffon in a purple/gray shade. The effect of the fabric should be that it is highly gathered at the bust but becomes loose and "flowy" towards the bottom. My waist is accentuated by a deep purple satin "belt" in a woven pattern (about 2 1/2 inches wide) that runs across the smallest part of my waist. The detail got lost when I scanned the photo, but the belt is really two thick satin braids formed into the pattern shown. I have a love for dresses with open backs, so I incorporated that style in this dress. The open back has a ribbon (about 1/2 in wide) in the same shade of the chiffon (and the lining underneath the chiffon) that zig-zags down the back through eyelets on either side.
I have a small waist and my biggest problem with dresses is that they never fit me in that area. This ribbon will allow for any adjustments so that the gown can properly hug my body. Any excess ribbon can be tied and tucked into the gown. The dress hugs my body up until it passes my hips and then it just flows down naturally. The back has the smallest hint of a train.
This is my original design and I have acknowledged and accepted the terms and conditions of this campaign.
