Hi,
My name is Maria Lupercio. I am going to first tall about my story behind my design. Ever since I was little I would dream of my senior year prom. I always had a passion towards gowns and their silhouettes, the elegance and formality, and the movement of gowns. Hearing about this contest made me so happy when I found out it was possible to enter and not be eighteen. I can across this page when I was looking for a dress that I once saw, unfortunately that was about three years ago now, and I never found it again. I fell I love with the design, I remembered that dress do to a shirt I have. It is a Grecian draped shirt that I would always use because I bought two of different colors. That is were I came up with the skirted part of the gown. That was the way I came up with the beginning of my creation.
I have seen many dresses but only a few are my style. Since I am chunky I have problems finding something that I like and actually fit in due to always having to look for something pretty and not old fashion. I have always had problems finding something I like to wear because if you see clothes for chunky people, there is hardly any style, most of the times they look ugly and dull. I in the other hand love bright vibrant colors and fashion. That is were I got the color of my design; it had to be nice, bright, feminine, attention grabber and not to forget pretty.
I like strapless close because you do not have to worry about whether or not the straps are in place or are folded, etc. but I added the straps to the dress because its prom. It is not respectful nor lady like to be dancing and having problems with anything moving out of place or showing. I enjoyed creating the drapery on the dress because I lobe the flow of drippings and the movement they do when the air hit’s the dress. In the back of the dress i created a drape going up to the band, after attached to band the rest flows down to the ground creating a brush train. I have a positive feeling towards my design, I chose to add a V-shaped type of band on the front to add another color. I chose silver for the band because I think silver is very elegant, but I added my own way of swirl design of beads to create a little dramatic scene on the dress for design. I also chose to add it to the straps so it could have more color.
I chose to add a shirred bodice to add more drape like elegance. Now the fabric was not easy due to not knowing anything about it to be exact; but I did some research on dresses that I have looked at and liked but were to expensive to even think about trying them out. So I searched them online and found the supplies that were used to create them. I googled the fabric I liked of course to know exactly how they look like and I liked what I saw. I added the zipper at the end in the computer after scanning my design because my mother remembered me about it, I would like it thought to be hidden and not outside or it would take the elegant away.
Now I hope my design gets approved to be able to enter the contest, and if anyone wonders if I stole the design of my dress from some sight or anything like that I will state it right here, “I Maria Lupercio, have thought off , designed, and drawn this dress by my OWN, through using other types of clothing as inspirations for my OWN design.” In addition I would like to thank anyone and everyone who worked on, will work on, thought off, approved off, advertised, donated, coordinated and created the page of the contest. Thank you for the opportunity.
