red ball gown prom dress contest design by Sarah Poet

Hello my name is Sarah Poet I'm 18 and I'm from Pa. This is my senior year! My design is based on renaissance dresses. I've never been to the renaissance fair or anything but I've seen a few dresses so I designed my own kind of version of a renaissance style dress. I saw in the one submission that she wasn't going for a gothic look but I like the idea of a gothic style and someone told me this design looked gothic. I chose red and black because I always look for those colors when i go homecoming dress shopping but I never found any I liked. So that was my first thought was my dress is gonna be red and black. This dress is totally me because I like to dress different then the crowd. I don't go for the usual thing I like crazy and different. As far as I know, no one is going to wear a renaissance like dress so I would be one of a kind.

My prom is on may 8th so I'd hope if i happen to be one of the lucky winners that you can make sure it gets to me on time. I noticed everyone seems to like corsets which I love also. A friend a of mine and I were planning on making corset dresses this summer and they were in some of the renaissance dresses I saw so I had to put one on mine. Although I wanted the strings tying it together to be in the front of my dress. So that's just the general reasons behind my design and I certify that these are my own original sketches and I agree to all the terms for this contest.

This is my dress, I already mentioned it's black and red. I picture it as a dark black and dark red but not an extreme dark red. The corset starts right below the bust and goes down into a v shape. The strings would probably be a black ribbon or cord whichever works best is fine with me. The part at the bust itself is a bunches up appearance if that makes sense, I'm not quite sure how else to describe it. The dress is off the shoulders (a style I've also been interested but haven't found one yet). The sleeves are either to the three quarter length or to the elbow before fanning off with fabric that hangs. The hanging piece splits in the front of the arm and gets longer towards the back (see picture for better understanding). The inside of the hanging part of the sleeve (the visible part) would be black. I have a black zigzag design on the upper sleeves and a bow either right at the splits in the hanging portion of the sleeve or across from it which would be on the back of the sleeve (I'd that up to the person making it I'm not sure which would look best). the top layer of the skirt is red and then it has a layer of tool i think its called or netting over it. This will make it one darker then the layer underneath which is just the red fabric and two its a nice affect in dresses. The trim on the top layer of the skirt (the black part in the picture) is a wide black lace that would match the not so wide lace for around the very top of the dress.I'm pretty sure that's it. It seems like a lot but it's basically how i vision it so you know what I want. Thank you very much for this opportunity it'd be better then wearing my homecoming dress from this year to prom (moms idea) no way I'm doing that! I hope you like my design I feel its very unique like me.
