prom dress design - green halter with sash by Taylor Nicholson

Hey,

I’m Taylor Nicholson, sophomore at Omak High School, woo Pioneers!

Okay, to start this off, I do accept all terms and agreements to the Free Prom 2010. I found out about this competition while looking for a prom dress online.  I decided it would be fun to enter this competition and see if I could win myself a free dress, I have never designed clothing before, other than doodles while I was bored.  And I feel very proud of this original dress of mine.

It is a simple sleeveless, silk dress.  It’s meant to ‘drop off’ the body, and look very ‘flowy’ for lack of better word.  There is a split on the left side, ending about mid thigh, and to keep it modest, there’s a sash, that is sewn to the gown, so the knot of the sash is right over the end of the split and the ends of the sash go to about two or three inches above the bottom of the dress.

The sash must be fairly thick, maybe seven or eight inches.  The sash is a very dark green, almost black, silk (or silk like material).  The dress itself starts, from the top, a few shades lighter than the sash, and slowly lightens, so by the time it gets to three or four inches from the bottom, it should be a very bright lime green, also silk.  To tie in the sash, I’ve added at the top the same color silk, what looks like a sash wrapped around the bust, and tied in the middle, turning it into a halter top that’s to be tied in the back.

The back is dropped to about the middle of the back, with a zipper ending when the sash begins, which starts around the upper thigh, but in the back is should be a little higher, maybe waist height, to make the sash look 'droopy'.  The reason I chose the greens, is because I love green, I think it is a very outgoing and fun color.

Thanks for setting this contest up, it’s great to give us girls the chance to bring out our designer side.
