The design of the dress itself is something significant to me because I chose this one over two of my other designs. The white corset top with a sweetheart neckline, which ties with thin white satin ribbon, is meant to accentuate the bust by subtly lifting, not revealing. (If your body is a temple, don't overexpose yourself!) The fabric used for this is white charmeuse. Only the front of the dress' corset top has a white lace overlay. It ends just below the bust where the next color comes into play. The satin emerald green wrap around is meant to fit like a pencil skirt, which contributes to the elegant look …
My name is Melissa Soeur and I originally designed the following sketch that has been submitted. I accept all terms and conditions upon my entrance of this contest.
The story behind the colors for this design is actually a strange one. My older sister, an advocate of self-expression, told me that because it was my last year of high school, I should choose a special dress. I can admit that her suggestion was confusing at first. Later that day, I realized what she meant. When one first glances at the ensemble I have put together, it should represent something significant about myself. As we were eating at our local pizza parlor, I ordered my usual meal: one slice of cheese pizza and a bottle of Sprite. I was staring at my bottle as a repetition of my sister's words went through my mind. Suddenly, I realized that I should choose my favorite colors, which happen to be the colors of my favorite drink's logo. Everyone who knows me well thinks that this beverage runs through my veins, so it was clearly inevitable that my three colorswere going to be white, yellow, and green. In case of her disapproval, I refrained from telling her about what I had in mind. As I searched local custom dressmaking shops, I found that where one store was too pricey, the other had unpleasant customer service. At a loss, I decided to rely on Google and found myself an advertisement for this very contest in which I have entered.
My feelings about this design is that it can represented as short, sweet, and elegant. One of the best things about this dress is that it can be worn day or night. I avoided a long gown because it would not flatter my body type. This dress would look great on girls like myself who lack height and have a curvy figure. ( I have been five feet since middle school and consider myself "over-developed".)

The bottom of the dress ends just above my knees. It is sewn to the white material and a gold band is used to cover the stitching. A shimmery gold band is just beneath the bust and ends just where the waist starts for an inspired high-waisted look to make my legs appear longer. It is placed over the area in which the white material is sewn to connect to the emerald green material, to hide the stitching.

Ultimately, I would like to thank the sponsors and creators of the contest for allowing young individuals the opportunity to create their own dream dress. Prom is an important event of every teenagers life because it is the very last school formal they will attend before they are off to college. I have been waiting for this day since I was in elementary school and never stopped imagining about the endless combinations of attire I could wear for this special day. I will genuinely remain grateful whether or not my design is chosen in the finals.
