I found out about this competition because I was looking through a magazine for prom. There was an advertisement for a different competition. I wrote down the web address, but I found out later, I wrote it wrong. No worries, I thought, what else is Google for! A lot of sites came up when I searched "Win a free prom dress 2010." As I was looking through all the results, I saw the link to this competition. I love to draw, and I love dresses, so I thought I’d give it a try. That’s how I ended up writing this essay.
Hi! My name is Samantha Farr. I am a sophomore at Clark County High School in Dubois, ID. Dubois is an itty-bitty little town and CCHS is an itty-bitty-teeny little school. There are about 48 kids in my ENTIRE high school! Now that you know a little bit more about my school, I’ll tell you how I found out about this competition.
My dress really shows one of the many sides to me. The main color and fabric will be bright/lime green taffeta. It has capped sleeves with black beading down the sides of the sleeves. It will have a sweetheart neckline with a black tulle flower in the middle. The skirt of the dress will be just a regular full skirt and will be long. On the left side of the skirt, about knee-height, another black tulle flower will be at the top of a gather that picks the skirt hem off the ground. This gather will expose the black tulle underskirt. Black swirls of beading and embroidery will connect the black flower at the neckline and the one at the gather along with three or four other placed at random on the front of the dress. Along the hem of the black underskirt, there will be green flowers made of tulle, but the same color as the taffeta. The centers of each black flower will be made of beading the same color as the taffeta and green flowers. The centers of each green flower will be made of black beading.

Now, the back of my dress will be a lace-up- I have a really wide rib cage so zippers or buttons don’t really work half the time. The lace with be black and the bow will be at the bottom and the ends of the ribbon will hang down several inches. There will be black swirls of beads on each side of the lace-up. The swirls will meet at the bottom of the lace-up, where another black tulle flower will be. There will be just a slight gather/scrunch at the flower on the back; just enough to add a little more flow.
I really hope I can win this dress. If I do win, I won’t receive it in time for this year’s prom (because it is on the 10th of April) but I will have it in time for my junior prom (we don’t have senior prom at my school). Hope you like this dress!!
I agree to the conditions of this competition and these are my original designs.
