Hello! My name is Megan Hyatt. I am submitting my sketches to you for the Free 2010 Prom Dress of your Own Design. I am extremely excited about this dress and feel that it reflects my personality very well. These are my original sketches and I submit to all the terms and conditions that come with the competition.
I named the design "A Classy Walk in the Clouds" so the major details of the dress reflect something that occurs among the clouds, or more generally, in the sky.
The dress is made of a smooth silk material, showing the smooth features of the sky. The color of the dress is a bright yellow. I want it to look like someone took a piece of sunshine and stuck it onto the dress. I would love a white jacketed look to the dress, and, for functional purposes, it could be made out of a shiny polyester or spandex-like material, for range on motion in the arms.
On the dress at the top of the body and at the hips is a belted look, which creates the “classy” part of the design. The rectangles shown in the sketch are a solid diamond-like accessory, white with a blue tint to it to contrast the yellow of the dress.
The main body of the dress has a unique braided feature, and each overlap spot of the fabric (circled in sketch) moves toward the center as it moves down toward the hips.
In the skirt I would love layered hoops to add poof and swish to the dress, representing clouds and wind. If possible I would like more in the back so the dress can assume a slight train look. Also, on the skirt is a glitter design, to represent the stars. The glitter would be primarily yellow with some white, so it is very subtle and catches the light. The glitter design would be clustered to look like a star, and as you moved down the dress, the glitter density would increase.

The basic shape of the dress would have a subtle mermaid silhouette, to flatter the body shape of someone like me, with a very short body and really long legs.
Finally, my favorite feature about the dress is the pockets. Girls always need to carry their phone, lip gloss, emergency makeup, and things like that, with them to their prom date, but carrying around a purse or clutch can be frustrating. You have to worry about losing it or holding it while you’re dancing. The pockets would eliminate that added stress and would be deep so nothing would fall out, and would be hidden in the folds of the fabric so they aren’t noticeable.
I am so excited to share my dress design with you and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
Thank you so much!
