Fairy by day daring by night

This dress duo was inspired primarily by the economy’s downfall. As I found myself and my family trying to use money effectively, I thought about what American consumers want today. We still want the quality of the products we had before the crisis, but we don’t want the prices to take a hike for the worse. We are looking for efficiency. My convertible dress provides that. With two different sides, not only does it provide a day and night look, but the duo is also fashionable, incorporating some of 2010’s hottest trends out there.

The first side is what I imagined to be more of a day look, a dress I’d wear to prom morning when the ceremony takes place. For this side, I was inspired by my childhood and Sleeping Beauty’s dress. The dress is based off a fairytale theme, which started trending last fall with pink mesh skirts. Instead of a peachy color for my dress, I chose fuchsia, a much more rejuvenated color. The bodice would be made from satin material. The waist band would be a removable sheer band toned to a purple color. This way the same band would be used on the reverse side and tied to a bow at the back. The lower portion of the dress would be three pieces of sheer fabric, ruffled at the ends and layered on top of each other from shortest to longest. Beneath the first two layers would hide the reverse side’s dress which is a bit shorter. All layers would be embroidered with flowers and vines with the same purple tone used for the waist band. This dress would be kneecap length, strapless.

The second side would be meant for night time, a dress I’d wear to the prom dance. I’ve seen bird associated designs on bags and accessories, but not on clothes. This dress was inspired by the peacock’s feather’s brilliant colors. In the designing of the dress, I decided to make the turquoise the main color. Not only is it a beautiful shade of blue, but was also named color of the year by elle.com. Once more, the bodice would be made from satin. It would have a turquoise color, but also have a slightly darker tone of blue in the middle, forming a triangle. Just as the peacock, this dress would not only have one shade of blue. The removable sheer band would be used again on this side and tied to a bow at the back. The lower portion of the dress would use a silk-like fabric pinched into a consecutive diamond pattern with mock diamonds in the center of each pinching. I decided adding diamonds would be appropriate, since they stand out in the night, hence why the dress should be worn at night. The dress would be a bit above the kneecap in length, strapless.

Given the chance to make this duo dress a reality, I would dedicate my efforts to my mom. She is currently suffering from arthritis, but is very supportive of me. Once upon a day, she was also a designer and a close friend of hers brought her outfits to life. Unfortunately, she died about six years ago, but my mom always held her close to her heart.
