  • My name is Maria Lupercio. I am going to first tall about my story behind my design. Ever since I was little I would dream of my senior year. I always had a passion towards gowns and their silhouettes, the elegance and formality, and the movement of gowns. Hearing about this contest made me so happy when I found out it was possible to enter and not be eighteen. I like strapless close because you do not have to worry about whether or not the straps are in place or are folded, etc. but I added the straps to the dress because its prom. It is not respectful nor lady like to be dancing and having problems with anything moving out of place or showing. I enjoyed creating the drapery on the dress because I love the flow of drippings and the movement they do when the air hit’s the dress. In the back of the dress i created a drape going up to the band, after attached to band the rest flows down to the ground creating a brush train. I have a positive feeling towards my design, I chose to add a V-shaped type of band on the front to add another color. I chose silver for the band because I think silver is very elegant, but I added my own way of swirl design of beads to create a little dramatic scene on the dress for design. I also chose to add it to the straps so it could have more color. That was the way I came up with the beginning of my creation.

I’m a senior at Mayflower High School, and I have many emotions and details to tell you about my dress. My emotions for this dress are almost indescribable. I love it and I’ve never seen a dress like this. I put everything in this dress. I asked all my peers for critique and advice and they all adored my dress. Even if I do not make the finals please consider the dress. I know many people who specifically want a version of the dress i designed and I’m sure it would help you while making many people happy.

Hello, my name is Nicole Bruno and I would like to submit my sketch for the free prom dress design contest. I think that this is a great opportunity to truly make my senior prom the best it can be. I’m really excited to enter this contest because in searching for a dress for prom there are always aspects of dresses that I like and dislike, but this is an opportunity to combine all of the aspects that I DO like into one elegant gown. So, here it is!

To start, my dream gown is strapless and has a sweetheart neckline. It is made of pleated chiffon in a purple/gray shade. The effect of the fabric should be that it is highly gathered at the bust but becomes loose and “flowy” towards the bottom. My waist is accentuated by a deep purple satin “belt” in a woven pattern (about 2 1/2 inches wide) that runs across the smallest part of my waist. The detail got lost when I scanned the photo, but the belt is really two thick satin braids formed into the pattern shown. I have a love for dresses with open backs, so I incorporated that style in this dress. The open back has a ribbon (about 1/2 in wide) in the same shade of the chiffon (and the lining underneath the chiffon) that zig-zags down the back through eyelets on either side. I have a small waist and my biggest problem with dresses is that they never fit me in that area. This ribbon will allow for any adjustments so that the gown can properly hug my body. Any excess ribbon can be tied and tucked into the gown. The dress hugs my body up until it passes my hips and then it just flows down naturally. The back has the smallest hint of a train.

Hello, my name is Rebecca McCune and I attend a school in Upstate New York. I have spent hours upon hours searching for that “perfect” prom dress. I have never found what I believe is the perfect one, mostly because I couldn’t settle on a style. I have browsed nexteve.com numerous times and am delighted that you are having this contest. This gives me an opportunity to create my vision of a prom dress 2011. Prom night is a night you celebrate only once and I really hope to make it special. I often think of prom as being one of those ‘I’ll tell my grandkids about this’ memories. Also, I am not the average sized girl. I am close to 6’ tall and finding clothes that fit has been a lifelong struggle. I believe that this dress would be very flattering on any body type and make the girl feel like absolute royalty. So on to the dress.

This dress fits into the ball gown category. When else in your life, besides your wedding, will you be given an opportunity to wear such a dress? This, combined with the beauty in ball gowns, is what inspired me to make my dress. The dress is designed to have an outer shell of satin that is a deep elegant purple, almost eggplant, color (sorry my colored pencils did not portray this). The second layer is also made of satin, but it is slightly lighter in color and has rhinestones along the edge. Finally, the third layer is made from sparkly, purple tinted tulle. Where the three layers come together, they are framed by flowers that are slightly darker than the outer shell. As the flowers descend on the dress, so does their size. There is a ‘waistband’ made from a silky eggplant color that goes around the back and is pulled to a point where the flower frame begins. Also there is a similar sash that goes around the smallest part of the torso; it is pulled to a point where there is a single flower. The sashes should not be smoothed when pulled tight, they should leave the natural forming overlapping folds.

Hi, my name is Allison Zeller, and this is my original design for the “Design Your Own Prom 2010” contest. I accept the Terms and Conditions that the design is my own. I’m a Freshman at Murrieta Valley High School, and this is a dress that I would love wear to my Prom. I’m a big girly-girl and ever since I was little, I have loved ‘Sleeping Beauty.’ That’s where I got my inspiration for my dream dress but with a lot of changes.

This dress is really unique because you can wear it three different ways! First, worn with the two parts together – pink overskirt dress and the silver with aqua tulle ruffle skirt underneath. Second, the pink overskirt dress by itself (take silver skirt off for dancing!). Third, the silver with aqua tulle ruffle skirt worn by itself with a blouse or top in whatever style or color combination you choose. The silver skirt is meant to be worn with a hoop, or a very full petticoat. This dress will be worn many different times with me. I can wear it to Prom when I’m older, and I can wear it now because I am in Rainbow Girls and we love wearing hoop style dresses!
